Welcome to Nepenthe

NEPENTHE derives its name from the Greeks meaning "no-sorrow".
A mythical Egyptian drug, it was given by the wife of Thonis, King of Egypt, to Helen, daughter of Jove, to induce forgetfulness and surcease from sorrow.  

The word and concept is used throughout literature to reflect a feeling of timelessness.  

It is our hope that our guests will experience, in the serenity of our NEPENTHE, a respite from everyday worries and concerns.  Whether relaxing in or by the spring-fed pool, lounging in a hammock or watching the beautiful views of Arenal Lake, Arenal Volcano and the jungle and wildlife from the rocking chairs, we want our guest to share the peacefulness of our part of paradise.

NEPENTHE is a bed and breakfast located in the North-Central part of Costa Rica in the small town of El Castillo near the city of La Fortuna, in the County of San Carlos. We are 3.5 hours NW of the airport in San Jose and 2.5 hours SE of the airport in Liberia.
